The Full Story
Incentives, Rebates and Grants
Right now you are paying your electric bill and all of that money is going to Hydro. It's just gone.
But with Solar, you could be paying that money back to yourself. Every payment comes back to you! Increasing the value of your home, farm, or business in the form of a solar generating station on your property.

The fact that you are paying yourself instead of Hydro makes solar the right choice, but then there's the tens of thousand in solar savings as well as the Incentives and Rebates covered here. Incentives that you won't get if you keep paying Hydro.

Efficiency MB Rebate
Efficiency Manitoba is offering a rebate of $0.50 per DC watt installed on homes connected to Manitoba Hydro’s grid, up to a maximum $5,000 per home.

For businesses, the rebate is $0.50 per DC watt but there is no maximum limit! For more business rebates see the Clean Tech Tax Credit below.
New April 2025: Efficiency MB is now offering $400 rebate for EnerGuide Evaluations!

Greener Homes Loan
The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers interest-free financing up to $40,000 with a repayment term of 10 years at 0% interest to help Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable.

The loan can help you finance eligible retrofits that are recommended by an energy advisor and that have not yet been started.

A pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide Evaluation is required.

Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit
This is a 20-30% Tax Credit for businesses and farms. You get up to 30% of the total cost of the system back on your taxes for both Solar and Battery Systems.

There are labour requirements for the full 30%. The 2 main requirements are:
1. We pay our employees a prevailing wage
2. 10% of our red seal hours are dedicated to apprenticeship.
Evolve Energy meets both of these requirements.
Farms and Businesses
All Businesses get to write off 75% of the invoice, after incentives, in the first year on their taxes, or spread it over multiple years. This is different than the tax credits.

Farms in MB don't pay PST on solar.

Also note that when you, as a residence, sell back your excess solar, you become a business.
Whatever % of the power that you sell back in your first year you get to write off that same % of the invoice against your income.

Clean Electricity
Investment Tax Credit
The latest news is that this is unlikely to be passed through into legislation.

It is pretty much the same as the Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit, except it is aimed at non-profits and municipal governments rather than businesses, and pays 5-15% instead of 20-30%
MB Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan
The MB Hydro Home Energy Efficiency Loan (HEEL) offers a loan at 6.9% financing up to 15 years, renegotiated every 5 years.

The maximum is $20,000 or $3000 per KW of DC Solar.

Greener Homes Grant
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants. Homeowners who have already completed their online registration and have an application number are encouraged to proceed in a timely manner with their retrofits and will continue to be eligible for funding and support through the Canada Greener Homes portal.
